Joomla is a free, open source Content Management System used for content publishing in World Wide Web. Before installing Joomla you just have to create a Database in Cpanel or in Plesk and upload the installation files to your server.

Create a Local Installation

You need to install Apache, IIS, PHP, MySQL web server on local machine.

APACHE – You have to install XAMPP for web based Joomla.

IIS – For IIS just install the Windows Web Platform.

VERSIONS

Joomla (1.0.0) was released on September 16, 2005 which was a re-branded release of MAMBO 4.5.2.3. Version 1.5 was released on January 22, 2008; Version 1.5.20 is the most recent release on 18th July 2010. Beta versions of 1.6 which adds a full Access Control List functionality was made available since May 2010, for testing purposes.

INSTALLATION

Joomla can be installed on a system running a web server supporting PHP applications or using a Turnkey Joomla appliance. It can also be installed by Microsoft Web Platform Installer.

Installation

Install via admin panel

  1. Log in site back end
  2. Click Extension < Install/ Uninstall
  3. 3. See “Extension Manager”
  4. 4. You get three options – Upload Package File-upload and install; Install from directory-enter path; Install from URL-enter URL

Install via FTP

To install on your PC just select the template folder and upload it to your server, using FTP software.

JOOMLA PLUGINS
